FlickrRSS with Lightbox2 Integration
Whew! After hours of figuring out how to display a gallery here in my website. I have successfully integrated two wordpress plugins— FlickrRSS and Lightbox2.
FlickrRSS is a plugin which grabs photo stream from the user’s Flickr account and displays them in a wordpress-powered site and Lightbox2 is a way of viewing the actual image size without leaving the page in an sleek “popup”. You can see it in action here.

Social networking websites with huge data bases have a mammoth task of managing data. The big ones employ several strategies to ensure data security and data safety. Along with the main server most websites have one back up server if not many more. Redundant servers are also necessary if a website has humongous traffic such as file sharing services like flicker. Services that provide online backup to its users engage in activities to ensure data privacy. When all fails a data recovery program can be the last resort.

Wow, I’ve been looking for something like this for the longest time (opening up flickrrss photo within own URL page instead of on flickr album site).
It also works great (compatible, fully working) if you were already using this Lightbox 2 plugin downloadable on http://www.m3nt0r.de/blog/lightbox-wordpress-plugin.
Thanks! Great stuff.
Forgive me, but what wasn’t clear to me (and perhaps to other less technical noobs who might be wondering the same thing) is whether all one needs to install is your plugin for the Lightbox thing to work its magic.
For me, when I installed your plugin, the image just popped up in static page (instead of going to flickr album).
The Lightbox2 effect worked when I installed a separate plugin which I got from http://www.m3nt0r.de/blog/lightbox-wordpress-plugin.
Your modified flickrrss.php file along with the above Lightbox 2 install (no modifications necessary, just activate)… worked together.
By “integration”, do you mean that a person does not need to install separate Lightbox script/plugin? That you’ve somehow include all functionality in one piece of code?
Not clear. Your plugin will attract the less technically minded citizens of the digital world. Great stuff.
OK, actually I think I understan now. I looked at page source and noticed references to “lightbox”.
Specifically, you are using this Lightbox 2.2 plugin from:
http://www.stimuli.ca/lightbox
Got it.
Works like a charm! Thanks for the code. Site is not online yet but the offline version is working excellent!
Hi eMac,
I don’t have my own site yet… was just testing your plugin with “borrowed” space.
So anyway, the original flickrRSS plugin author recently released a minor update to his flickrRSS plugin… now 3.1.
I believe your modded version was based on 3.0.3 (the previous version)?
Pretty please, favour, what specific lines did you add/change in 3.0.3… I was wondering if I could just add those to 3.1 (and then test it myself to see if it still works). I’d rather use the latest version of flickrRSS (including your integration) for when I actually have my site up…
Thanks, if you could help (because I’m not really all that technical and I’d rather not do a line-by-line comparison). I just realized, after browsingyour site… that you’re Filipino. I’m Filipino-Canadian! Anyway, good luck on your job application.
FYI, the minor change on v3.1 (August 24, 2006) is:
3.1 - Flickr changed the RSS url, support for 20 images in admin panel, a few minor tweaks to display text

Hi eMac can you help me with the terrible line (cursor) in the center of my lightbox2. What can I do to get out it?
You can take a look here. Thanks
I refer to the cursor that I see on the window of lightbox, same when you write a document can see the the cursor flashing to tell you where stay in your document. I dont see this problem in your gallery and for this reason I ask to you.
Bye, Christian
if you are referring to the \”loading image\” you can check the path of our loading.gif file.. i can see that the file exists in this link but it is not properly called. check with your lightbox js file and modify the path.
Hi eMac… Sorry for not responding sooner. Thanks for making changes to 3.1 version! Tested it, using it, works great as before. I finally got a website but it’s still sort of only half done.
Thanks again.
Hello, I have a problem becouse in the center of my lightbox2 I don’t see the loading.gif image. Why?
Hi eMac thanks for this worderful hack. I’m looking for hack it again in order to open several other sizes. Could you indicate where do you find the static link (to flickr) for that medium size displayed?
Hi, just thought you might want to know.. the flickrss author has recently updated his plugin - http://eightface.com/2006/12/flickrrss-312/
3.1.2 (which also includes fixes in 3.1.1 which your integrated version may not have) - QUOTE:
Updated the flickrRSS plugin for WordPress. Flickr altered the urls for static photos. It affects those using the image cache. If you want to fix the plugin yourself, open flickrrss.php and find the following line:
68: preg_match(”, $imgurl, $flickrSlugMatches);
and alter the code, so that it reads:
68: preg_match(”, $imgurl, $flickrSlugMatches);
Any plans of updating your fantastic plugin?
Belated Merry Christmas and a Happy Upcoming New Year!
Regards,
fruityoaty (Maria)
Ooops, that code didn’t get pasted in correctly.
Well, the details are in that URL of the author’s site.

Hi guys! i have updated the code from the latest FlickrRSS. You can get it here
I have a little problem here. Everything seems to work but when I click on the photo’s the lightbox pops up but displays the same small thumbnail image.
What is the problem and the solution to do?

Tony Cai
Hi, I’m back. FYI, WordPress 2.1 has come out, as you probably already know. The author of flickrss plugin has updated to version 3.2 in order to be fully compatible with WordPress 2.1 (which is an important update).
Any plans on updating your integrated plugin to 3.2?
Anyway, thanks for a great plugin.
Awesome integration. I found you by chance. I was actually trying to figure out how to add a flickr interestingness feed to the flickrRSS plugin and happened to find your site somehow. Thats the internet for ya. Anyhow I used your method and it worked great. Thanks for this!

Hi Efren, I would like if you could help me installing and customizing Hemingway Theme in a similar way that you have it.
I’m the founder and administer of “inusual platform” (inusual.org, .net. com, .tv and .info) it’s a spanish interactive professionals community/platform to share experiences and so on.
Inusual is not a company, just a project, so I pay’it with my pocket, but I have a little budget and I thought that you could help me.
Looking hearing you
Thanks
