Lightwindow with FlickrRSS
I have made a new integration to the FlickrRSS plugin with Wordpress and this time around, with LightWindow. You can see how the integration works on the “Photos” section on my blog. I also added a shuffle feature so that the photos display in random order.
Step 1:
Download the plugin here. Save it as a PHP file and upload to your ‘plugins’ folder.
Step 2:
Download the images, js and css for lightwindow here. Unzip and upload the folder ‘lightwindow’ into your wp-content/themes/<theme>/ directory.
Step 3:
Modify your header. Include the libraries with the following code:
<script src="http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/lightwindow/prototype.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/lightwindow/scriptaculous.js?load=effects" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/lightwindow/lightwindow.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<link href="http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/lightwindow/lightwindow.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />
Additional Treat:
To use lightwindow on your post or any link ()on your site, add the attribute ‘class=”lightwindow”‘ in order to trigger the lightwindow effect.

Kevin,
Thanks for dropping by. Yeah, great job too on your lightwindow. No problem, i’ll send you inputs and will be glad to do some testing on your lightwindow. Really rocks! Did you get that MacBook already? Cheers!
It doesn’t work in my web page. I’ve modified the header.php Including the code, but the lightwindow haven’t appeared. ![]()
Hi Jaimecin,
I was looking in your website and I noticed that you are using the original flickrrss plugin by Dave Kellam. I have modified that code and you can download it here. Save the file as PHP and activate the plugin. should work now.
Hi, I just add the scriopt, works in FF , and not works in IE 7
do you think that CSS file is bad ?
thanks
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/lightwindow/prototype.js” >
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/lightwindow/scriptaculous.js?load=effects” >
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/lightwindow/lightwindow.js” > I use this way to connect the scripts
Haik,
It depends on where you unzipped your ‘lightwindow’ folder. You can try to put the absolute URL instead of relative URL. Also check if there is a conflict with your existing CSS like naming of ids and classes.
Cheers =)
Updates:
Please redownload the zip file and replace your current ‘lightwindow’ folder. There is a bug on the lightwindow component that resizes the image incorrectly on IE browsers.
Cheers =)
well I fix , it, ys, was some size problem, but now, it load garbage info, did you meet same problem?
mine works well.. can check this site in IE if you like. Can you provide a URL of your site so I can check what the problem is?
Thanks.
i have tried all steps above and still don’t get it to work. http://www.tbonespeaks.com … please help.
I can see you used jquery on your site (bottom part before the closing html tag). There might be a conflict between the prototype and jquery libraries. This plugin runs only on the prototype JS library.
Based on my experience, you cannot use jquery with prototype on the same page. I will try to find a jquery-based lightwindow then integrate it with flickrrss. Sorry…
eMac,
ok… i now have gotten the thickbox option to work with images and not disrupt my site. However, i must use this specific version of thickbox… http://mezzomondo.nelblog.it/2007/05/28/thickbox3/ …… the other thickbox plugins i downloaded and tried didn’t work…
now i need to know how to modify my flickrrss to use the class=”thickbox” ….. i had to put the original flickr-rss plugin back on the site….
any help you can offer is greatly appreciated… i appreciate your work and made a donation….
Hi Tarun,
Can try downloading this file and save it as flickrrss.php. This assumes you already have a working thickbox as you mentioned.
What do you mean you made donation? Just added a ‘Make a donation’ button below if you feel like giving for Christmas. No obligations.
=) Cheers!
YES! that works on my site http://www.tbonespeaks.com …. i appreciate your help.
i sent a donation to you via paypal a few days ago from another post on your site.
Glad its working. Maybe you posted the donation to another site. Its ok no worries. Glad to be of help to you…
=)
you are right…. i sent it to someone i don’t even know… oh well…
i sent you a small donation as well….
So generous of you. Thanks. btw, you might need to apply CSS so your flickr section so that photos will align with your theme. A padding will also make them look better. Just a thought…
Hi eMac,
I really love the functionality of your plugin in combination with lightwindow - but your FlickrRSS mod got me an error… I use WPMU, may that be the reason? And I am lookgin for a way to get rid of this little rss-logo and the space between the pic on the right sidebar

Lars
P.S.: Hope your life gets better again
P.P.S.: How did you make this footer?
Lars,
I saw your site and apparently it is not using the flickrrss i published here. Please download it and upload in your plugins folder. Plus there are a few javascript libraries in your template that are incompatible with the lightwindow JS libraries. To make it clearer, Lightwindow uses the prototype and scriptaculous libraries but your template uses the jquery library. You cannot use both libraries at the same time. If you are interested, you might want to use thickbox instead (runs on jquery library). Please read through the problem Tarun had on the previous comments. I customized the script for him to run the thickbox instead.
P.S. Thanks for the comforting words. Life is better now. I think there is a better opportunity out there for me that’s why it happened. =)
I am running a hemingway template. Can check it out. so the footer is like that (actually a ’sidebar’ in wordpress’ sense)
uff. That sounds over my head. How get I rid of the JS templates? Does that mean I have to change my template or can I work on the code and integrate your recommended libraries? I will google around, may be I find out… but if you know a shortcut. Ahhh… i am looking now for hours to find a way to get rid this little rss logo? Or will it disappear with your modification?
Good to hear things ewop (everything works out proberly)
has thickbox the same features as lightwindow? Already a way to run lightwindow with jquery? Got flickrrss now running with lightbox, but lightwindow looks very attractive…
Regards
Lars
Thickbox has almost the same features as lightwindow and lightbox. I prefer lightwindow though since it handles images, videos and urls well. If you will only use the functionality for your images and want to keep your present template, then thickbox will do.
Nice site by the way.
I am tempted to use lightwindow be able to integrate those accordion from stickmanlabs… but I really like K2 :-/
Hhhmm… any ideas for a similiar theme that is usable with lightwindow and prototype/scriptaculous?
Thank you for the feedback!
Lars,
You might want to check out the official themes site for wordpress:
There are a few good themes there that you might be interested with. You can use the accordion effect at the same time with the lightwindow. They both use the same JS library.
how do I know, which has a sidebarmanager or is without jquery? Do you know if there is a sidebarmanager plugin whoch covers the functionality of the K2 sbm?
Sorry for the late response.
There’s no way to tell but to try each one. Hemingway is a good one and can be customized easily
=)
eMac thank you very much for this, it works great. Can you maybe explain how your lightbox has a “slideshow” and other such features? I can’t seem to figure out how to get mine to do that. Thanks in advance.
Hi David,
Sorry i wasn’t able to create a post about it yet but the one i’m using now uses lightview instead of lightwindow. I’ll post a tut on how to do it within the next few days. Thanks for dropping by.

Very Nice! I did something very similar on my wifes blog but it was admitidly hackish. V3 is in the works and I would love your input on features for plugin integration and such and testing if you have time.
